ACS has announced the shortlist for the 2024 Technology and Solutions Showcase, taking place on 4th June at Stoller Hall in Manchester.

The Tech & Solutions Showcase provides a unique opportunity for retailers to find out about new transformative innovations that have either been recently launched or will be launched in the future by suppliers.

CMA Publishes Report into Price Marking Accuracy in Grocery Sector

ACS (the Association of Convenience Stores) has responded to the Competition and Markets Authority’s Price Marking Report, highlighting the overall high rate of compliance on pricing in the retail sector. 

The report, published this morning, includes the result of inspections of 139 shops between November 2023 and February 2024 to check price marking and pricing accuracy.

Retailers Highlight Ongoing Impact of Abuse in Stores ahead of #ShopKind Week

Leading high street retailers, the Home Office and industry groups are coming together to support #ShopKind Week, taking place from 6th – 10th May 2024. 

 

The #ShopKind campaign aims to remind customers about the importance of being considerate to shopworkers and each other. UK-wide polling highlights that 31% of customers are more anxious when they shop and 36% of customers have witnessed violence and abuse towards shop worker while shopping.

ACS Calls on Retailers to Take Part in the 2024 Annual Employment Survey

ACS (The Association of Convenience Stores) is calling on all retailers to take part in the annual Employment Survey (formerly called the National Living Wage survey), of which the findings will help to inform ACS’ employment policy work over the coming year, including its submission to the Low Pay Commission.

Following an increase in National Living Wage rates on the 1st April, the National Living Wage went up 10% from £10.42 to £11.44 per hour to anyone aged 21 and over.

Deposit Return Scheme Introduction to be Delayed to 2027

ACS has welcomed confirmation from the government that the introduction of deposit return schemes in the UK will be pushed back to October 2027, subject to agreement from the devolved administrations. 

In a written ministerial statement published this morning (April 25th), Robbie Moore MP confirmed that the previously scheduled October 2025 go live date for a deposit return scheme was a ‘stretching target’ and that an October 2027 implementation would be required to ensure that the rollout of schemes was effective and efficient.

ONS Crime Survey Reveals Shop Theft at Record Levels

Figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales, published today, show that shoplifting offences have increased by 37% (to 430,104 offences) compared with the year ending December 2022 (315,040 offences), and is the highest figure since current police recording practices began for the year ending March 2003.

The data follows the last release of figures from the Crime Survey for England in Wales in October 2023, which showed a 25% increase in theft on the previous year.
